You will be beginning a new stage of life with your loved one as you prepare to settle down together. This comprises preparation for pre-wedding photography and a wedding ceremony, as well as constructing the area that you will call “home” for the rest of your life.
A pre-wedding shoot, often known as an engagement shoot, is a picture session done in advance of your wedding. However, some couples may struggle with the decision of whether to have a pre-wedding session. A pre-wedding session is a wonderful way for couples to begin married life by celebrating this priceless life milestone with beautiful photographs of you and your spouse.
There will always be lovely backdrops available for your wedding photography if you choose the best wedding photographer in Singapore.
My Bridal Room can organize the required international travel program if you choose a Renaissance-era setting or Mother Nature as your backdrop.
The photographic crew is skilled at capturing the special feelings, closeness, and inner beauty of each couple. The art direction combines modern aesthetics with a laid-back, organic attitude.
To ensure that you can relive all the special moments, actual-day wedding photography and videography services are also offered. This would be a wonderful idea for upcoming anniversaries.
Why are Pre-Wedding Shoots Important?
Photos from the engagement session will also be useful for your wedding invitation cards and decorations at the reception. According to the adage “a picture is worth a thousand words,” your pre-wedding images might serve as the ideal storytellers for your enchanting love story. You can even use your pre-wedding photos as wall art in your new home!
You may have no idea whatsoever how to begin organising your pre-wedding photography studio after you have decided that you would like to have one. As a result, we have gathered some helpful advice for you to take into account as you prepare for your pre-wedding shoot.
Pre-Wedding Shoot Planning 101:
Location:
You have the option of conducting your shoot abroad, locally in the nation in which you now reside, or in a studio.
The typical choice for most couples is to carry it out locally. One advantage of filming there is that you can do it pretty much whenever you want because you live there all year. More significantly, you can decide to film in places that are significant to your relationship, like the cafe where you first started dating.
Nowadays, it’s more common to have a pre-wedding photo shoot abroad, away from the hustle and bustle of the big city.
Discover Your Shutterbug:
You need to be able to trust and be transparent with the individual who will turn your vision for your images into reality. Finding a photographer with the right tools is essential. You may go through the work of several different photographers to choose one that fits your budget. Don’t make the choice hastily. Sit down with them and have a conversation to find out if they can or cannot turn your postures into lifelike photographs.
Make an effort to reserve your photographer in advance and to follow up as the big day approaches. Additionally, be sure to have a thorough conversation with them regarding the style of your desired photographs.
Book Your Makeup Artist:
The only individual who can improve both the bride’s and the groom’s appearances must be qualified. A skilled makeup artist will make sure to fulfil your requests at all times. They will make an effort to comprehend your demands and act accordingly.
Pre-wedding photo shoots don’t call for elaborate hair and makeup. The important goal is to keep it modest and authentic. So that they can be ready for the day, let your makeup artist know in advance what hair and makeup you’ll want based on your attire.
Manage Your Dress and Props:
The finest part of the entire preparation process is choosing what to wear for you and your guy. You’re in for a lot of shopping, challenges, and fun. Look your best in your carefully chosen clothing and accessories. To avoid last-minute fittings, get your clothing ready at least two weeks before the event. Plan your clothing so that you can match t-shirts or color-coordinate them.
Once you’ve picked your clothing, it’s time to decide which props you’ll use in both the movie and the photos. You will find it simple to pick your props if you have the backdrop, theme, and costumes in mind. All of these factors are important since the props must match the mood of the overall shot.

Hiring a wedding photography and/or wedding videography studio is SOP in Singapore because your wedding is most likely the most important (and expensive) milestone in your life. Right, no picture, no conversation.
You will eventually need to hunt for a wedding photography or videography company that suits your budget and your aesthetic and won’t produce subpar results if you don’t choose a wedding package. We’ll help you with the first part of the process (the budget) in this tutorial, but the remainder is up to you to decide.
Are you unsure about the actual day wedding photography rates in Singapore?
You should budget at least SGD 600 to SGD 1500 for wedding day photography and SGD 1200 to SGD 2000 for videography, assuming your wedding is a full-day affair. By hiring the same vendor for the entire wedding actual day package, you can save some money, but it’s a rare studio that excels at both.

Candid Wedding Photography:
The art of candid photography involves capturing images of people who are completely oblivious to the photographer and are not posing for the camera. When something is static, it is nevertheless feasible to visualise it as moving. The ability to capture life as it happens is essential for candid photography to succeed. and the story it conveys about that specific period.
Candid wedding photography aims to record the basic, unadulterated feelings of the special occasion. A wedding photographer’s favourite moments to capture include the bride and groom’s first glance, a proud mother seeing her son say his vows, or anything unplanned.
They don’t want to ask them to move or do anything again because they want to capture these beautiful moments as they happen on camera.

You have dreamt about your perfect wedding for years and you want it to be the most amazing day of your life. But having your dream wedding doesn’t mean you have to spend a fortune! Lucky for you, we have 8 cost saving tips to help you stretch every dollar without compromising on the wedding of your dreams!
Of course, this means you’ll have some extra budget to splurge on your honeymoon, home renovation or simply to save as you build a new life together as a married couple. So why wouldn’t you read on? Let’s dive right in!
1 – Pick A Date During Off-Peak Season
According to an article in Her World, March, May, June, July, September, November and December are typically the most popular months for weddings in Singapore. Repetitive dates such as 10 Oct, or 11 Nov – 10.10, 11.11, etc etc – are also considered hot dates, which is going to make them more highly sought-after amongst couples!
You’ll be surprised to know that some venues may even offer special promotions for weddings during the off-peak season – which is a great way for you to save some bucks!
2 – Consider Other Days of The Week
Since rates for wedding venues are more expensive for weekends, consider going for a weekday night or, even better, afternoon for your wedding. Going down this route, you can save up hundreds of dollars off for your venue, F&B and other wedding vendors such as photographers, videographers, emcees and more! This option makes even more sense if you’re planning for a smaller and more intimate party.
3 – Don’t Feel Shy About Borrowing Things
Some items that you need for your wedding are only going to be used once – so it’s actually a great idea to ask your friends and relatives if they can lend you some of these items instead of spending your money and time to source them from scratch! One such category of items that are great for borrowing are decorative items like photo frames, plushies, lights, candles and signages.
4 – DIY is The Way to Go!
One way to add your personal touch to your wedding and save a few bucks at the same time is to DIY a few items. It’s becoming commonplace for couples to design their own wedding invitations, produce and edit their video montages, pen down guest names for each reception table, or prepare other decorative elements for their wedding!
It’s truly a great way to showcase your fun and unique personality that your guests will surely love!
5 – Hold Your Reception at a Restaurant or a Cafe!
Instead of a hotel as a wedding venue, why not hold your wedding reception in a restaurant or cafe? This option is getting more popular amongst couples too as they look for more memorable and creative concepts for their wedding celebration. The venue and F&B cost are likely to be lower too, while you can still enjoy beautiful settings and ambience on your special day with the food that you and your guests love!
6 – Rent Your Wedding Gown and Accessories
Renting a wedding gown is a great option for brides to get the gown of their dreams at a fraction of the cost! Whether you prefer a fairy and princess-like dress, or a more elegant and sophisticated one, you can definitely get one that suits your style from the many bridal shops around Singapore like My Bridal Room!
On top of gown rentals, bridal shops usually provide accessories that you can rent like necklaces, bracelets, earrings and hair pieces, providing another great way to save and stretch your wedding budget!
7 – Go Digital!
Taking advantage of technology is another creative and efficient way to help couples reduce wedding expenses.
For example, instead of sourcing and paying for physical wedding invitations or save-the-date cards, many couples now just create a wedding website (for free!) or use e-invites via email to extend their invitations to their guests and them with the details of the wedding. Guests can simply RSVP through the website as well for easier tracking!
In fact, this option will probably only gain popularity going forward as people become more conscious about the environment. Plus, you won’t have the risk of your invite getting lost in the mail!
8 – Repurpose Your Flowers and Decor
For many couples who choose to have their ROM in the morning and their wedding reception in the afternoon or night time, using some of the wedding decor for both occasions is actually a great option when it comes to saving money!
For example, the floral arrangements that you use for your church wedding can also be used again for table decorations at your guests’ tables during the reception.Similarly, your bridesmaids’ bouquets from the earlier event will still look great at the reception table during your lunch or dinner banquet.

In our previous blog articles, we have discussed many aspects of wedding planning – including creating a wedding checklist, choosing your bridal package, shortlisting your wedding party, curating your guest list, etc.
Depending on the scale of your wedding, the planning process may take more than a year! In Singapore, wedding venues are normally booked around one year in advance, with many other aspects that can be overwhelming and stressful for some couples. With their own busy careers and schedules to top it all off, the bride and groom-to-be may not have the time to do all of these tasks themselves.
This is where a wedding planner comes in. A professional wedding planner is an expert who will make sure your wedding goes smoothly according to your vision. So what exactly is their role, and under what circumstances would you need to hire one? Continue reading to find out!
What Does a Wedding Planner Do?
In a nutshell, a wedding planner pretty much handles everything for a couple when it comes to the wedding process – from making recommendations on venues, bridal shops, entertainment, etc and feedback on their choices, reminding them of various deadlines, making sure everything falls within the budget and timeline while coordinating between the couple and the vendors.
Here’s a quick list to sum up what a wedding planner does:
- Recommending venues, caterers, florists, bridal boutiques, photographers, entertainment, solemnizers and other vendors according to your wedding theme and requirements
- Creating and going through your wedding programme and checklist
- Sending out the wedding invitations and managing the RSVP list
- Reviewing all agreements and contracts with vendors on the couple’s behalf
- Accompanying the bride and groom for dress fittings, food tastings and other rehearsals for the wedding
- Planning for the wedding rehearsal
- Providing support and solutions for any unexpected events or changes that may occur
If you’re wondering if you should hire a wedding planner to help out for your big day, here are some questions to ask yourself to help speed up your decision-making process:
1 – Do you have the budget?
According to research online, the average cost of engaging a wedding planner is around $3,000 to $5,000. While the amount may vary depending on the scope and scale of your wedding, this will be a good benchmark when it comes to figuring out if your wedding budget can cover the cost..
2 – How busy are your schedules?
One of the most common reasons for couples to engage a wedding planner is not having the time to plan the wedding themselves. For such an important day of your lives, it’s understandable that each couple wants their wedding to be as perfect as possible.
If both you and your fiance have demanding work commitments (or are simply workaholics), travel frequently or are often tied up with work on weekends, hiring a wedding planner may be an ideal solution to get things done..
3 – How hands-on do you want to be in your wedding planning process?
For some couples, the entire process of researching and planning their wedding can be an enjoyable experience. Others may not feel the same way and want things to be done as quickly and efficiently as possible. If you belong to the latter category, then getting a wedding planner might be the right answer for you.
Professional wedding planners know exactly what questions to ask, be in the know when it comes to finding reasonable prices for the different services that you need (and thus, be able to negotiate and get you a better quote), and offer recommendations and ideas that you may not think of, based on their years of experience.
This way, a couple can leave (most of) the work to their wedding planner, allowing them to focus on enjoying what matters most – safe in the knowledge that their ideal plans for their big day are in great hands!

When we hear about newly-engaged couples planning for their big day, we often only think about the wedding banquet. However, in order to make your marriage legal, you need to register your marriage under the Registry of Marriage (ROM) in Singapore, and this is also an important part of your wedding planning process!
Source: My Bridal Room
Depending on individual preferences, you may wish to register your marriage on the same day as your wedding reception or choose to ROM first and host their wedding banquet at a later date.
Whichever you choose to do, keep reading to find out everything you need to know about planning for your ROM in Singapore!
1 – Decide on the venue
When it comes to hosting the solemnization ceremony, couples have two options: either at the ROM office, or at an outside venue of their choice.
The first option is definitely the most cost-efficient and fuss-free if you prefer saying your ‘I dos’ in the presence of a small group of family and friends (max 8 guests, including your witnesses and your wedding vendors).
Picking the second option offers more flexibility as you can choose to hold your solemnisation at a restaurant, hotel, park, or any other preferred venue. You can also invite more family and friends!
2 – Choose a solemnizer
Source: My Bridal Room
Another important decision you need to make is choosing your solemnizer. As he/she will be officiating your marriage, some couples do have preferences when it comes to choosing one. For example, what language do you want your ROM to be conducted in? How serious or lighthearted would you like the ceremony to be? Different solemnizers have different styleswhen it comes to conducting the marriage ceremony, so it’s a good idea to spend some time online doing your research, or getting recommendations from friends and family.
From there, you may contact the solemnizer to ask about his/her availability on your preferred ROM date, and confirm with them when you decide to engage their services.
Do remember that a solemnizer is a volunteer – and he/she is taking time out of their schedule to officiate at your wedding. Therefore, appoint someone from your wedding party to host or take care of the solemnizer while he/she is at the ceremony to make sure he/she knows where to go. Do be punctual as to not let them wait around for too long and extend your gratitude and appreciation at the end of the event. Do remember to prepare a stipend i.e. an ang pow or a suitable gift for your solemnizer.
If you are holding your ROM at an outside venue, you must also get your solemnizer to sign a consent form, which you will need to bring for your appointment at the ROM office.
Here’s a list of licensed solemnizers in Singapore for your convenience!
3 – File a Notice of Marriage online
After making the above two decisions, you can proceed to file a notice of marriage online here.
You can file your notice up to 1 year in advance or 1 month before the date at the latest.
Check out this helpful calendar tool from ROM to find out when you should file your notice of marriage.
Before filing, make sure you have these documents ready:
- Credit card (CashCard or NETS only at ROM).
- NRIC (for citizens and SPRs) or Passports (for foreigners) of the groom, bride and 2 witnesses above 21 years old.
- Consent form signed by your solemnizer (if solemnization is taking place away from ROM).
- Printed copy of the payment receipt and ‘Summary of Notice of Marriage’ at the end of online filing.
Make sure you double check the dates and both your names before you file. Once it’s submitted, you will receive a Summary of Notice of Marriage and a proof of your successful filling.
4 – Visit the ROM Office for verification of documents/Statutory Declaration
Once you successfully file your notice of marriage online, you will be allocated a date and time to go to the ROM office for verification of your documents and to make your statutory declaration.
For this appointment, you and your spouse need to be present. Don’t forget to bring the Summary of Notice of Marriage, your identification and a copy of both your witnesses’ ICs.
The process here is straightforward as the officer needs to verify both your identities. At the same time, both of you will recite the marriage oath in front of the officer.
If you’re having your ROM at an outside venue, you will be given a set of documents, which you will need to bring and sign on your actual day in front of the solemnizer and your witnesses.
5 – And it’s your actual ROM day!
Source: My Bridal Room
And finally your big day is here! This is a momentous day as this will be the day you are legally married under Singapore law.
Since you have made all your preparations, all you need to do is prepare yourself and look amazing on your wedding day! Bring along your ICs, wedding bands (if you have them) and of course – the set of marriage documents that you’ve been given.
Happy planning!

Planning for your big day can be stressful, but having the right people by your side to support you can lift a lot of that burden off your shoulders and make the whole process more enjoyable.
Your wedding party won’t just be involved in every aspect of planning for your dream wedding, but importantly, they will be right there with you as you recite your vows and celebrate the most important day of your life. Therefore, your wedding party should consist of your closest family members and best friends.
Who should you include in your wedding party and what does each role entail? Read on as we spill all the deets to help you get started!
Here’s a helpful list of roles to include in your wedding party and our suggestions on who should fill them:
Maid of Honour
Photo: My Bridal Room
A Maid of Honour is the bride’s right-hand woman and has the biggest role in assisting the bride throughout the whole wedding planning process and on the big day itself. These duties may include: choosing the bridesmaids’ dresses, accompanying the bride for dress fittings, organising the bachelorette party, planning the gatecrash, and being the point of contact on the wedding day to coordinate with the wedding venue, F&B providers and everything else the bride may need help with! Most brides usually choose a sibling or best friend for this role.
Bridesmaids
Photo: My Bridal Room
Bridesmaids, colloquially known as the bride’s sisters or jie-mei in Mandarin, are the brides’ entourage- who also play a big role in making sure everything goes smoothly on the bride’s wedding day. They are usually the bride’s close friends or relatives. Usually under the leadership of the Maid of Honour, bridesmaids often help out in organising the bride’s bachelorette party and planning for the gatecrash. On the big day itself, they usually help with ushering guests to their seats, manning the reception table, handing out wedding favours, coordinating photo-taking for the guests, as well as other miscellaneous tasks.
Best Man / Best Woman
The best man or best woman fulfills the maid of honour role for the groom. Similarly, this person is usually filled by the groom’s best friend or closest sibling. In many weddings, the best man and maid of honour are also expected to deliver speeches during the wedding reception. He/she also helps out with the wedding planning and attends to everything else the groom may need throughout the big day.
Groomsmen
Photo: My Bridal Room
The groom’s entourage, also known as the brothers, often take on similar duties as the sisters. They help with the wedding planning, decorating the wedding car and planning for the groom’s bachelor party. On the wedding day, they usually double up as ushers to direct guests to the right seats and coordinate the photo-taking as the couple goes from table to table during the reception. Both groomsmen and bridesmaids stand by the groom and bride’s side during the wedding ceremony.
The Groom and Bride’s Parents
Good old mums and dads of the couple (or whoever is standing in for them) play an integral role on the wedding day. They sit together with the bride and groom during the wedding reception as well as by the couple’s side at the wedding ceremony.Typically, the parents serve as the witnesses as the couple exchange their vows and sign the wedding registry, and at some weddings, fathers of the bride or groom deliver speeches too. They usually welcome guests at the wedding reception and are part of the party that thanks everyone for coming at the end.
Flower Girl
Flower girls walk down the aisle ahead of the wedding couple, spreading flower petals as they go. This whimsical role is usually filled by nieces and other young relatives or even the daughters of friends.
Ring Bearer
The ring bearer’s job is to carry the couple’s wedding rings down the aisle during the wedding ceremony. Just like the flower girl, this can be a really cute and fun role to assign! Many couples often appoint a younger relative such as their nephew, cousin for this. In some unique cases, some couples even opt for a family pet!
Officiant or Solemniser
Photo: My Bridal Room
Whether the exchange of vows takes place at a religious venue, a fancy restaurant or even in an office at the Registry of Marriages, an officiant or solemniser is needed to witness and validate your union, and to sign the marriage license. You can view the full list of licensed solemnisers on the Registry of Marriages’ website before approaching the one of your choice.
Ultimately, remember that it’s YOUR wedding day, who your wedding party comprises of, and what they need to do is entirely up to you. Some couples might prefer not to have bridesmaids or groomsmen, while others may have more specific roles included in their wedding party. In short, there’s no right or wrong way to go about it.
Whatever you decide, make the most of your wedding celebration because it’s going to be a-once-in-a-lifetime-occasion. Most important of all, remember to have fun!

Congratulations, you are engaged! A very exciting journey soon follows : your wedding preparation!
Covid-19 may have put a dampener on some of our grand plans for overseas travel, and maybe even your original dreams of an overseas pre-wedding photo shoot. While you may feel dismayed and upset at these disruptions, we are here to offer up some consolation – a local pre-wedding shoot is still a great option!
A pre-wedding shoot is a rare opportunity to dress up and look your best, capture stunning photos against sweeping landscapes with the love of your life, and best of all, immortalize that moment in time with memories for a lifetime. Many couples also use photos captured from their pre-wedding shoot in their decor or wedding programming such as their wedding montage, so while they can be pricey, a pre-wedding shoot is also an investment.
We’ve put together this guide to planning for a smooth and enjoyable pre-wedding shoot!
1. Do research!
It would be unwise to assume that once you book your photographer and decide on your locations, the work is done! In fact, it is only the beginning – most photographers often want to know if you have any specific preferences for your photoshoot, such as a theme, any props you will bring, if you wish to highlight any specific part of your relationship, etc. This will all contribute towards a smooth photoshoot day where you and your photographer are on the same page.
But before that even happens, you have to first find a photographer! It’s common nowadays to browse the portfolios of many wedding photographers on Instagram, and directly message them on the platform to find out their rates and availability. You can also pick from many compilations online, such as this list on Singapore Brides. Most photographers also specialize in certain styles of photography ranging from casual and natural to quirky or glamorous! Pinterest is a good resource for doing research on which style you would prefer for your shoot – you can browse through many catalogues from different photographers all at once at your own convenience before shortlisting one or a few styles to explore!
2. Have a contingency plan
While you can prepare everything and hope that the day will go well, there are certain things which are out of your control. Many pre-wedding shoots are in an outdoor setting with a scenic backdrop, so a lot of it depends on the weather conditions on the day. We live in Singapore, which is notorious for unpredictable weather as well as sudden thundery showers. To circumvent this, discuss with your photographer to have a back-up plan which is preferably an indoor location, so that weather will not affect the outcome of your shoot!
For example, if you are planning to visit Coney Island for some dreamy scenic photos, consider switching locations to the waterfall at Jewel, or even to the Cloud Forest at Gardens by the Bay for the best of both worlds – beautiful flowers, greenery and a waterfall backdrop!
Also, consider the month(s) to take your pre-wedding pictures – you can try to get around the rainy weather by avoiding the months of November to January when the monsoon season hits. To be safe, you can try shooting in May to July, which are equivalent to Singapore’s ‘summer’ months!
3. Take steps to look your best!
While your photographer and makeup artist will do their best to make you look your prettiest on the day itself, it would still be very helpful to ramp up your beauty regime in the weeks coming to the shoot.
To improve your complexion, consider using face masks diligently in the days leading up to the shoot. If you intend to also go for a facial beforehand, do take note to have it done at least a couple of days to a few weeks before the actual day itself in case you have any angry red spots right after the facial. Having enough rest and sleep the night before is also critical to ensure you do not have dark eye circles or greyish looking skin. Lastly, staying hydrated by taking in sufficient fluids and avoiding too much salt intake will also help your skin to look fresher and more healthy! Depending on whether you are expecting to take any close up shots of your hands (and your engagement ring), you can also have a manicure done so that those pictures will look even more amazing!
Also, if your actual day package includes a makeup trial, ask if your makeup artist would be willing to ‘use’ the trial for your pre-wedding shoot day, so you can save some moolah while still looking beautiful! It’s a great way to also get that ‘preview’ of your look on your actual wedding day, to avoid any surprises.
4. Comfort is key
Unlike how picture-perfect your pre-wedding shots will look, the shoot itself can be anything but. Imagine humid weather conditions and the relentless sun beating down on you – it can be a real test of endurance! However, you can take steps to ensure you get through your shoot smoothly with maximum comfort.
Firstly, if your shoot involves multiple locations, consider driving or renting a car for that day. It will help so much in saving time to book transport during the shoot duration, which could eat into your photographer’s precious time that you’re paying for! Secondly, to all brides, do opt for comfortable footwear such as white sneakers or flats, which will probably be hidden under your dress anyway and will allow you to walk through uneven terrain, or for long stretches with ease. For any shots which do reveal your footwear, you can bring along your heels and put it on just for those short periods. Lastly and most importantly, pack light and yet bring along some essentials – don’t forget your trusty insect repellent, wet wipes, emergency touch-up makeup, a portable fan and a bottle of drinking water.
5. Have fun!
When all is said and done, you’ll definitely look your best and take beautiful photos with genuine emotion, if you’re actually having fun and enjoying the process! Practise posing with your partner, finding your good angles and just looking forward to your pre-wedding shoot day together. Consider reminiscing about your time together as a couple, asking yourself questions such as what made you first fall in love with each other, who made the first move, how was your first date, and more questions like this to rekindle those sweet emotions and memories. This will really put you in the mood and ensure the most natural, beautiful pictures to last a lifetime.
